In 2024, the Effective Altruism Australia community achieved something extraordinary: raising $5.74 million for our high-impact partners around the world.
This generosity is estimated to support over 1.2 million people through highly cost-effective programs delivering malaria prevention, vitamin A supplementation, cash transfers, mental health care, and more.
Each year, millions of children still die from preventable diseases. Malaria alone kills around 425,000 children under five annually. Thanks to this community’s generosity this past year, some of those deaths will be prevented.
Australians making a global impact
We’ve captured this collective impact in our 2024 Donor Impact Report, with last year’s EAA donations estimated to:
- Protect over 300,000 people from malaria
- Deliver vitamin A to more than 730,000 children
- Fund school-based deworming for 177,000 children
- Back climate efforts that avoided 23,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, equal to 177,000 one-way flights between Sydney and Melbourne
- And support thousands more children and families through vaccine incentives, group therapy, and unconditional cash transfers.
These life-changing impacts are quietly happening day by day, yet their effects are profound and lasting, improving human wellbeing and combating climate change in tandem.
Global aid cuts
At the same time, we are witnessing serious challenges across the global aid landscape, with billions of dollars in aid being cut by the US and UK governments, creating uncertainty for many vital programs. The support of individual donors and communities like ours has never been more important.
