Effective Altruism Australia Board
Effective Altruism Australia (EAA) is seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified applicants to join the Board of Directors.
EAA partners with highly effective charities that deliver some of the most transparent, cost-effective, and evidence-based programs for saving and improving lives. Our current partners are active in countries across Africa and Asia, addressing issues such as malaria, intestinal worms, and extreme poverty. We also collaborate with the broader effective altruism community in Australia and international organisations, and organise events such as the EAGxAustralasia conference.
EAA is currently reinvigorating its organisational strategy, including recently recruiting a CEO, and looking to broaden its community-building and fundraising efforts. New board members will support the professionalisation of the organisation and the move away from a “management board” approach. More information about our work is available on our website and our strategic plan for 2025-2027 is available here.
Skills and Experience
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and encourage anyone interested to apply. Applicants should be familiar with the principles of effective altruism or evidence-based policy and evaluation. The Board is particularly looking for people with skills in:
- Marketing and Public Relations
- Fundraising
- Cyber Security
- Effective Altruism community experience
- Legal expertise
- International development
We are also interested in applicants who are leaders or public figures in their fields, or who can bring strong connections to the Australian or international EA community. Applicants who would enhance the Board’s diversity are strongly encouraged to apply.
Role and Commitment
- Director positions are unpaid.
- New candidates will usually join meetings as observers for a probationary period, before being formally appointed as Directors.
- Directors are expected to attend regular Board meetings (8-12 per year, usually online) and allow time to review and prepare meeting papers in advance. This typically equates to around 5–8 hours per month. Additional opportunities exist for those who wish to contribute through subcommittees, project work, or representing EAA at events.
- Directors will be expected to occasionally contribute their skills to the organisation such as advising on areas of expertise and occasionally contributing to fundraising efforts.
Application Process
To apply, please complete the Expression of Interest form by November 14th 2025.
Please note: as the Board is entirely volunteer-based, the review and shortlisting process may take some time. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
If you have any questions, please contact us at info@eaa.org.au.
We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet any specific skill listed above. EAA is committed to building a diverse and capable Board to guide our next stage of growth and impact.
