A Record-Breaking EOFY: $2.87 Million Raised for High-Impact Charities

This June, Effective Altruism Australia (EAA) donors came together to achieve something extraordinary. Our 2025 end-of-financial-year (EOFY) fundraising campaign raised $2.87 million, surpassing our $2.25 million goal by 27% and marking the most successful EOFY campaign in our history.

That’s a 29.5% increase compared to 2024, and an incredible 73% increase compared to 2022. These funds will now go to some of the world’s most cost-effective charities, tackling global health and poverty where every dollar can have the greatest impact.

The Impact: 280,000 Lives Improved

This record-breaking generosity is estimated to improve 280,000 lives* through highly cost-effective programs like delivering malaria prevention, vitamin A supplementation, deworming, cash transfers, and climate interventions that will remove 10,434 tonnes of CO₂ from the atmosphere.

By directing support to rigorously evaluated, evidence-based charities, our community ensures each contribution goes further.

What Made This Possible?

This record-breaking outcome was powered by generosity across the community:

🌟 224 new donors joined the EAA community, a 36.6% increase from last year.

🔄 121 donors reactivated their support, reconnecting with our mission.

💖 1,205 active donors continued their giving, helping to build steady momentum throughout the campaign.

Together, more than 1,500 people chose to give where it makes the greatest difference. Whether it was a first gift, a returning donation, or an ongoing commitment, every donor played a part in making this our strongest EOFY yet.

Looking Ahead

Thanks to your generosity, we’ve strengthened EAA’s role as a giving multiplier, connecting Australians with the highest-impact ways to help others.

The record-breaking success of EOFY 2025 gives us both confidence and responsibility: to sustain this momentum, to diversify and deepen our donor base, and to keep refining how we inspire Australians to give most effectively.

Together, we’ve shown that smart giving can achieve extraordinary results. Let’s see how much further we can go in 2026.

*Note on impact estimates: Our 280,000 lives improved figure is lower than a previous estimate of 480,000. Initially, we projected 50% of Top Charity Fund donations would support Malaria Consortium’s SMC program, and 50% would support Helen Keller International’s Vitamin A Supplementation. After GiveWell recommended directing 100% of funds to Malaria Consortium, we adjusted the estimate. We recognise this may feel confusing and will aim to provide lower-bound estimates in future to make reporting clearer.

*Note on average donation size: The average donation size has been updated from $896 to $1,246. The original calculation counted multiple designations from a single donation as separate donations. The revised calculation treats each donation as a single contribution, regardless of the number of designations, providing a more accurate average donation size.
